3. Write/type your response, or talk about it with a family member.

Fiction Choice Board
Choose a character from the story. Would you like to have this character as a friend? Be sure to describe the character and explain why/why not you’d like to be friends. | Describe the setting of the story. (Remember, the setting includes when and where the story takes place.) Does the setting change throughout the story? If so, how does it change? | Do you think the author chose a good title for the story? Why or why not? Bonus: Share another idea for a good title. |
Summarize the story by writing 3-5 sentences that tell about the most important events in the story. You can either write a paragraph or make a chart in your journal. | Do you think the author chose a good title for the story? What else might be a good title for the story? On a journal page, design your own cover for the book (with its current title or a new one!) | Choose a character in the story and write a letter to him/her. Be sure to ask the character at least one question, and tell him/her about something that they did in the story that you liked or disliked. |
What is the author’s message (the big idea that the author wants us to learn) in this story? Write 2-3 details that support this “big idea.” | What is the main problem in this story, and how was it resolved? Did you like the ending of the story? Now that you have read the book, what have you learned? | How did the photographs and diagrams help you understand the story better? What did you learn from these pictures? |
Why did you decide to read about this topic? Do you want to read more books about it? Why or why not? | Why do you think the author wrote this story? What did you find most interesting about what you read? | Create a "Top Five" list of interesting facts you learned from the book. |
Were there unusual facts, interesting side bars, photographs, diagrams, etc.? Please include examples. | Create a quiz about the book you read!
