DOMINO
A NOTE ON ART DIRECTION & PRODUCTION VALUE
This video will have a campy, DIY, humorous spirit. Most shooting will be on a green screen and there will be practical effects, animation, and absurdist masks and makeup.
The art direction is somewhere between The Holy Mountain, the Mighty Boosh, and the Dark Crystal.
CHARACTERS
DOMINO:A spiritual voyager, who has journeyed to the ends of the earth seeking eternal happiness. Some combination of Bryan Ferry, Frodo Baggins, and Dorothy Gale.
MYSTIC:A creature as old as the earth — perhaps a stranger from another planet or another dimension. He sits alone at the edge of this reality, promising all that one seeks … at a cost.
The video opens with a shot of our hero approaching. This world is softly glowing, surreal, full of deep enchanted blues, purples, and pale yellow moonlight.
We cut to see our hero’s purpose: a visit with the mystic.
He is seated behind a small table-like surface in a moonlit, rocky place at the edge of the world
Our hero approaches and seats herself across from the mystic, who acknowledges her with oracular dignity.
The hero produces a diagram of the object she seeks — the Mask of Happiness.
The Mystic then nods, and begins a divination process, shuffling and laying out cards in strange patterns. The mystic then reveals one card at the focal point — which portrays an image of the Mask of Happiness.
Our hero looks intent and in awe at this moment, and the camera pulls in towards the card…...until we pass through into the world of the card.
Our hero is alone in this abstract plane where the Mask of Happiness floats before her.
She approaches slowly and, reverently, puts on the mask.
There are some flashes of magical bonding between our hero and the mask, and then she turns to face the camera and holds a pose, much like a religious icon or a classical painting.
The camera pulls back out to reveal the mystic holding the card, which no longer shows just the Mask of Happiness, but now shows our hero wearing the mask in the pose they struck.
Video ends with the mystic happily looking through the deck of cards in his hands, presumably at the many other souls trapped in his deck.
Thanks for your interest in this project!
I’m sure we can make something amazing together,
looking forward to your thoughts.
