Attendance & Credits

  • Students can have no more than 4 absences for term (9 week) classes and no more than 8 absences for semester classes.
  • Any days over will result in students NOT earning credit(s) for classes. They will receive a 64/F or their actual grade, whichever is lower.
  • Parent notes/doctor excuses for absences can only be accepted DURING THE MONTH OF THE ABSENCE/CHECKOUT/CHECKIN
  • Parent notes/excuses need to be turned into Office 1 (Guidance) on the day the student returns. No later than by the LAST DAY Friday of the month in which they were absent.
  • Seat time can be made up:
    • After school, Tue.-Thu., 3:41-4:30pm (transportation provided)
    • Saturday D-Hall, 8-11am (Must be on time & must sign up by Fri. morning of each week in Office 2)
    • Fall/Spring Intercession, 8am-12pm (transportation provided)

  • MS Scholars requires 80 hours of community service, 19 ACT or 36 ASVAB, 1 math above Alg II, 2.5 GPA, 95% attendance since 9th gr., Chemistry + 2 Sciences above Bio I, World Geo, and 2 Advanced Electives or 5th math/science or 2 DC/AP courses + core curriculum
  • Tech Master requires 4 CTE credits, Geometry, 2 Sciences above Bio I,80 community service, 19 ACT, + core curriculum
  • No scholarship money with these but tells employers/business leaders that you’ve done more than what is required.

  • A 93.5 and above GPA for HIGHEST HONORS

ACT WorkKeys Info

  • The ACT WorkKeys tests is to measure a person’s abilities in a variety of workplace skills so that potential employers can see their strengths and weaknesses in professional areas.
  • The WorkKeys levels are Bronze, Silver, Gold, & Platinum
  • There are 3 sections to complete: Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, & Workplace Documents
  • In each section, you must score the following to earn a level:
    • All 3s for Bronze, 4s for Silver, 5s for Gold, 6s or above for Platinum
    • FYI: If you score two 4s and one 5, you will have earned a Silver
  • CCTI and JROTC diploma endorsements REQUIRE a Silver level or higher.
  • The WorkKeys test is administered to Freshmen & Junior CCR students in the Fall & Spring.
  • Seniors wanting to either 1) take the WorkKeys for the 1st time or 2) you’d like to retake specific sections to attempt to score Silver or above, may contact their counselor of The Test Coordinator, Ms. Jayme Nobles (room 708) or email her at jsnobles@pgsd.ms.

Program Overview:

This grant (does NOT have to be paid back) was created by the Mississippi Legislature, this program is designed to provide tuition assistance to qualified students whose financial need, as demonstrated by federal student aid eligibility, will not be met with gift aid from other sources. The program provides full tuition to qualified students for up to four years.

To Apply – New Applicants:

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is required for all applicants and will serve as one of two required residency documents.
  2. Complete the online application. The online application must be completed each and every academic year for which the applicant seeks aid.
  3. Submit required supporting documents.

Things to Remember!

  • When you apply to a college, send a transcript! (Transcript request on school website or see/email Ms. Machado)
  • Share your acceptance letters and scholarship offers with Guidance (all of them, even if you aren’t attending that school or accepting the scholarship)
  • The ACT is the primary way to earn scholarships. The higher the score, the more money offered.
  • If you qualify for free/reduced lunch, you are eligible for college application & ACT fee waivers.
