Reminder - AI rules - for you

There are some important things that you need to know before you use AI.

AI tools often have age restrictions - many are only for age 13+ or age 18+. Your teacher will help you with what is appropriate for your age.

AI should not be seen as a person - if you want advice speak to someone you trust.

Your school will help you to understand their rules on AI use - you must follow these.

Last lesson we:

  • Considered that AI doesn’t always tell the truth and sometimes it makes mistakes.
  • Realised that some AI generated words, pictures or audio can spread incorrect or misinformation and cause problems in our communities between people.
  • Learned how we need to ‘fact-check’ any information we are given to make sure it is true.

Essential skills - what type of skills do jobs need?

The Task

  1. In small groups, match each job with the 2–3 most important skills you think it needs.
    • Example: Teacher → Communication, Staying Positive, Problem Solving.

  1. For each job, discuss:
    • Could AI help with this job? How?
    • Which skills or parts of that job do you think will always need a human?

Tip: You can use a skill for more than one job.

There is no right or wrong answer as all jobs need all skills! It’s your choice what you pick.

Supporting Organisation:

You will need a set of Jobs Cards (e.g. a social worker or robotics engineer) and a set of Skills Cards (e.g. listening, leadership, problem solving)

What are essential skills?

We need all of these sets of skills for the future.

‘Basic skills’ and ‘Essential skills’ are important in all jobs. ‘Technical skills’ will be different depending on the industry and job role. You continue to develop your skills throughout your life!

Essential skills - what are they and why are they important?

People who develop their essential skills are often happier in their jobs and tend to earn higher salaries.

These skills are important beyond the workplace, whether that’s making life decisions, navigating relationships and making personal choices.

They will also help us navigate AI and technology in the future.

Think about a job you might like to do in the future.

  • How might AI help you in that job?
  • What essential skills would you need?
  • What school subjects would you need?

Think about the things that AI is good at, and also think about what things humans are really good at that can’t be easily replaced.
