AMIEL FLETT-BROWN

INTRODUCING

Amiel is a Cree and Métis competitive cyclist, currently living and racing in Victoria, BC. In January 2020, he was accepted onto the Canadian National team for track cycling.

​

He recently completed a certificate program in Indigenous Land Stewardship at the Native Education College where he made it onto the Dean’s List. In the program, Amiel took courses in ecology and climate crisis, Indigenous governance and resurgence, academic English, project management, and leadership. The skills that he took away from this course, combined with his experience as an athlete and community member, has helped him work toward laying a strong foundation as an advocate for sport in Indigenous communities as well as people from all backgrounds; in particular, people from low income backgrounds, as this is his lived experience. Amiel hopes to inspire youth and people of all ages to lead a healthy lifestyle and develop strong connections to sport and community.

Within the cycling community, Amiel has three-years experience as the team captain and strategist on the Glotman Simpson Elite road cycling team, as well as coaching seminars in essential racing skills for entry level and elite racers within the racing club.

FUN FACT!

I grew up skateboarding and found cycling at the age of 18 after watching the London 2012 team pursuit finals on TV by chance! I also spent a semester at an outdoors school on Saturna Island, we lived off the grid and got our hot water from a cast iron stove.
