WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

Inspiring people is GOOD!

BACKBONE OF EFFECTIVE TEAMS:

  • Set and execute clear expectations for Students, Coaches and Parents
  • Maintain communication with Students, Coaches, and Parents
  • Encourage Student-Centered behavior
  • Empower Students and Coaches to enforce the Code of Conduct

4 of 21

HOW IS A TEAM CONTRACT HELPFUL?

  • More credibility within your School District or community
  • Parents and Students take Coaches more seriously
  • Everyone understands their expectations
  • Coaches backs are (mostly) covered
  • Less Anxiety & Stress, more success.
  • Remember this is a contract, and teach Students and Parents to “live” by it.
  • You should NEVER copy/paste someone else’s contract and expect it to work for you and your Team. Each Team’s contract SHOULD be different to meet its needs.
  • “Steal from the best, design the rest”
  • What you expect your students to do, and how you expect them to act are two TOTALLY different things

ITEMS TO CONSIDER

  • Attendance - is it mandatory or optional?
  • Transportation - who is responsible, and when do they need to be there?
  • Materials - who can use what, and where?
  • Integrity, honesty, and reliability - how to display these characteristics?
  • Respect - what is considered “respectful” and what is not?
  • Exhibit maturity, class and sportsmanship- what does that look like for your Team?
  • Student-Centered Team - how can you establish and maintain it?
  • Safety - what is required by your school/community, and what will you add?

TEAM PARENT & COACH EXPECTATIONS

  • Encouraging and challenging children is valuable to them and their Team.
  • The Code of Conduct also applies to Parents, Coaches & Event Partners
  • Setting expectations for Parents & Coaches is as important as for Students!
  • Parents & Coaches ALSO need to know what is expected of them, so they can maintain Student-Centered Environments with limited Adult assistance
  • Setting expectations can help Parents & Coaches recognize the difference between “Helping” and “Taking Over”

WHAT DOES A CONTRACT LOOK LIKE?

THINGS YOU MIGHT SEE OR NEED TO THINK ABOUT:

  • Bulleted list of expectations for Parents, Coaches, & Students
  • A spot for Parents, Coaches, & Students to sign
  • Physical or Digital Copies for each family to keep
  • A safe place to store physical or digital copies
  • Managing access to private data and signatures
  • How will it be distributed, and by who?
  • How will copies be collected?
  • Is there a set deadline for submission, or is it a rolling schedule?

The Take-Away

Coaches - You are the Leaders of your Team. You have the power to inspire your Students infinitely!

Students - Your Coaches and Parents want to support you and provide you with awesome opportunities. It is YOUR responsibility to take them. No one else can do it for you!

Parents - You are the connection between your child and their Team. Help the Team, attend events, and stay informed. Your support and encouragement is the most valuable thing you can offer!

TEAM BUDGETS

11 of 21

WHY DO YOU NEED A TEAM BUDGET?

RUNNING A ROBOTICS PROGRAM TAKES MONEY!

WAYS TO USE A TEAM BUDGET:

  • Applying for most State Aid Funds or grants requires a budget
  • Requesting funds from your School
  • Asking local businesses for sponsorships, partnerships, or donations
  • Showing parents how much a program costs annually
