Rural

  • In Rural areas there is a lot of living space, very comfortable and can be relaxing as it is quite airy and fresh in the outdoors.
  • Because alot of people that live rurally grow there own food it is less contaminated. They also have animals that they get food from like chickens and cows.
  • In rural areas food isn’t thrown in the bin but given to chickens or pigs which means the domestic and industrial waste isn’t as it is in the city.
  • The infrastructure isn’t in the same when living rurally because the essentials like electricity, education, work, communication, energy supply and public services aren’t available or weak.
  • There is a lot less crime in the countryside which makes parents feel better about sending there children out on their own.

Rural vs Urban Living

Urban

  • Urban areas are more evolved in terms of access to infrastructure and connectivity like airports, ports, housing, roads, electricity, schools and hospitals.
  • In urban areas there is a lot more air and noise pollution, facing large numbers of domestic and industrial waste due to high population density, vehicles and industries.
  • Urban areas have lack of light and greenery due to more buildings and roads.
  • The problem of social barriers is minimal in urban areas because there are equal opportunities for men and woman when getting jobs.
  • Urban areas have a good living condition being able to use clean water, a qualified toilet and a solid house.

Losing lots of the elder maori population also caused a drop in the maori knowledge also causing confusion about their own culture.

Losing the maori knowledge caused kids to grow up without knowing much about old maori traditions

Maori children felt like they were more like pakeha than Maori as they new and were taught more about pakeha culture and origin

Further Consequences

Maori had lost so much land there weren’t many jobs available on tribal land in the countryside anymore.

The government encouraged Maori to move into cities as they wanted more workers in the cities.

Some businesses in cities did not want to give Maori workers jobs as they thought they were lazy.

Maori couldn’t get work so they don’t have enough money to buy food and water for there families. Without the money they probably can’t afford to buy or rent a houses leaving people to either live on the streets or live in damp and overcrowded houses.

This could lead to diseases such as tuberculosis, pneumonitis, rhinosinusitis, the common cold etc.

This would lead to busier medical clinics and hospitals meaning if someone needs to visit quickly there won’t be enough hospital beds or a long wait.

This could create a decrease in Maori population as they aren’t being treated fast enough. This might cause the Maori culture to be forgotten or not allowed.
