Extended School Year 2020

August 4, 2020

Dear ESY Families,

We are approaching the end of the Extended School Year Program (ESY). During the Extended School Year program, your child engaged in a variety of activities to continue building on what they have learned in math, language arts, physical education, and social skills. We recognize that the summer months are a wonderful time to relax and enjoy days without school; however, a total absence of learning can result in some children losing critical skills that they have worked so hard to gain.

As a partner in your child’s online learning, you have created an expectation for learning at home because of your attendance in virtual ESY, please continue that expectation of learning throughout the month of August. Do as best as you can to maintain the expectation that it is time well spent working on math and language arts skills. This does not mean not taking a day off here and there, but returning students to a school schedule after weeks of time off is much more difficult than returning after a few days off. Your child, with your collaboration and assistance, will continue to develop the skills to reach his or her full potential.

On behalf of the ESY program, we cannot thank you enough for your support and assistance. The teachers and related service providers want to extend their appreciation for your continued collaboration during this virtual experience. Here are some suggested activities and related websites to continue this learning partnership with your child.

Kind regards,

Gillian Iappelli
