Problem Statement

      • Dementia and amnesia patients frequently forget they already took their medicine, leading to dangerous double-dosing.
      • Clock-based reminders fail because patients have lost track of time.
      • Patients distrust unfamiliar, robotic voice alerts, reducing compliance further.
      • Caregivers often only learn about a missed or repeated dose after it becomes an emergency.

💊

⏰

One-line problem: Clocks can't tell if a dose was already taken — memory-loss patients can, and do, take it twice.

MedGlow-Memory

SOLUTION

MedGlow-Memory builds on the existing MedGlow smart pill-box hardware, adding logic that recognizes what a clock can't: whether the dose was already taken.

      • Familiar voice prompts — a recorded family voice says "take your tablet," not a robotic one
      • Anti-double-dose check — sensor detects the pill is gone; a repeat attempt triggers "you already took this one"
      • Routine-based timing — reminders tied to daily habits (e.g. after breakfast) instead of clock time
      • Smart caregiver alerts — a skipped dose sends an SMS; a skipped dose plus the patient leaving home triggers an urgent call
      • No new device to learn — same box, same lights, just smarter logic

One-line pitch: MedGlow-Memory prevents dangerous double-dosing by recognizing what a clock can't — using familiar voices and simple sensors.

DEPENDENCIES AND SHOWSTOPPER

1

Depends on the existing MedGlow smart pill-box hardware and its pill-slot sensor being already installed and calibrated.

2

Requires a short, clear voice recording from a family member for each patient — onboarding is harder without one available.

3

Sensor must reliably tell "pill removed" from accidental jostling; false readings could block a real dose or miss a double-dose.

4

Needs stable SMS/cellular connectivity at the patient's home — a dead zone is a showstopper for caregiver alerts.

ADDITIONAL INFO

MedGlow-Memory targets a fast-growing, high-need population: dementia and memory-loss patients living independently or with part-time caregiving support. By reusing existing MedGlow hardware and adding routine-aware logic, the solution keeps cost and adoption friction low while directly targeting one of the most dangerous, under-served risks in elder care: accidental double-dosing.
