Marble is a virtual globe and world atlas — your swiss army knife for maps.

https://marble.kde.org

At its heart, a software library powers the Marble applications -- also integrated in a wide variety of other projects like Digikam or the KDE workspaces. Using the Marble library in your project requires only C++, Qt and adherence to the LGPL 2.1. Last but not least you can extend Marble itself using plugins.

OSGeo Ireland

Like OSGeo Chapter colleagues all over the world the year 2020 hasn’t worked out the way we had hoped…

Start of 2020 : some mini events, talks, co-hosting planned …. But then ….. Everything changed.

4th OSGeoIE 2021 - Potentially move to University-based venue (Summer 2021). Or plan a fully online event.

OpenStreetMap Ireland: We are exploring possibilities of a larger co-hosted (online) event with OSM Ireland in 2021.

Goals and Next Steps for 2020/2021

Events: attempt to organise or co-host additional ‘mini’ events (online)with OSGeo focus

Increase sponsorship opportunities: work to improve OSGeoIE’s sponsor base

Further community development - include local government volunteers in OSGeoIE activities

aka: tcmug@lists.osgeo.org

  • Held monthly meetings, every second Wednesday of the month in various locations around the Twin Cities metro area, and more recently have gone virtual.
  • Combined monthly meetings with local presentations. Presenters have been locally sourced as well as from the greater OSGeo community.
  • Began a recording process of the virtual meetings for future viewing.
  • Attendance to meetings on the rise over previous years, especially from outside our local area. Virtual nature of meetings has increased interest and participation, both locally and from afar.
  • Good amount of archived material for online viewing from the presentation recordings.

GeoEthics

Updates from Suchith Anand

  • In October 2020 , Suchith Anand (GeoForAll) organised a Think Tank on Data Ethics to bring together representatives from over 20 organisations (European Commision, UK Cabinet Office, World Bank, European Space Agency, Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data ,International Science Council CODATA, Open Geospatial Consortium, OSGeo, African Academy of Sciences etc ) to explore ideas for building support for the Locus Charter - an international charter on the ethical use of location data.
  • Following this Data Ethics ThinkTank, it was agreed to keep continuing the GeoEthics discussions through the mailing list at OGC.
  • Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) has made available Geoethics list as an open, public archive http://lists.ogc.org/pipermail/geoethics/
  • Request sent to OSGeo Board on 12th August 2022 to join Locus Charter.
  • If you are interested in GeoEthics , you are welcome to join the OGC GeoEthics maillist at https://lists.opengeospatial.org/mailman/listinfo/geoethics
