Proficiency Codes for High School:

  1. Pass Advanced scores are coded as 1
  2. College Ready scores are coded as 8
  3. Fail is coded as 3 for SOL tests.
  4. Does not meet is scored on VESOL test for failures.
  5. High School SOL tests will not have a score of 4 or 5.
  6. Scores of 9 are represented by (NS) in Pearson and by these SOL codes 991-Absent, 994-Medical, and 999-already passed. (NS) WILL NOT COUNT AT ALL.
  7. Students coded as Refusal or Cheating will receive a score of 0
  8. Parent Refusals will not be used for Accountability unless a school does not meet the 95% participation rate.
  9. If a school does not meet 95%, then only enough 0 scores will be added to allow the school to meet 95% participation.

Set filters in EXCEL to display Proficiency Data

Once in the report, you will need to place filters on each column of data.

  • From the Home tab, highlight Row 8 that has the light blue shading.

  • On the right of the menu bar, select the Sort and Filter button and select Filter

from the dropdown. This will place a filter on each column in Row 8.

HIGH SCHOOL -- MASTERY --Information–EOC Reading, Biology, or High School Math

7

    • Only EOC Reading, Biology, and a math SOL that is taken in high school will count for mastery within the 4-year COHORT.
    • If a student takes Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II in middle school, a substitute test such as the ACT or SAT can be added to accountability.
    • If Earth Science is taken at middle school, that will not count in the middle school or high school calculations. ONLY grade 8 science will count in the middle school calculations.
    • If a student takes Algebra 1 in high school and fails, then takes Geometry and passes, only the Algebra 1 failure will count in the COHORT for mastery.
    • Students will be allowed to take WorkKeys Writing as a substitute test for writing and WorkKeys Workplace Documents as a substitute test for EOC Reading for graduation purposes only. Substitute tests will NOT be included in the new accountability.

14

    • The AP and DE courses can be mixed. For example, students can have two AP exams with a score of 3 or higher and one DE course with a B average to earn 1 point.
    • Early College Scholar Certificates are worth 1 point. Criteria for Early Scholar Certificates are: Working toward an Advanced Diploma, have 15 hours of college credit and have a B average. Coding for Early College Scholars must be done by March 31.
    • Some schools award B+ or B-. for the purpose of the Enrollment category, the + or – does not matter when looking at AP or Dual Enrollment courses for grade of B or grade of C.

  • Prior to 2017, ASVAB scores could be added to PowerSchool within the Credential section
  • After 2017, ASVAB scores can only be added to PowerSchool if associated with specific SCED Codes
  • If your school teaches ROTC, then the ASVAB score can be attached to that course.

High School –Odds and Ends

1. SOL test takes coded as Medical, Absent, or Refusals

    • Any student coded as medical, absent, or refusal will not be included in the new accountability system UNLESS the school did not meet the 95% participation requirement.
    • If a school did not meet the 95% participation requirement, a score of 0 would be added just to meet that 95% rule.

2. Transfers and partial attendance for students who have attended less than one-half the year

    • Students will only be considered as a transfer if they enroll after Semester 1.
    • All students who have attended less than one-half of the year will be excluded from accountability if they fail the test. If they passed the test, then they will be included.
    • However, ALL students who attempt a test will be included in the School Quality Profile and the Build-A-Table data even if they were coded as a transfer; pass or fail.

3. Subgroup Information

    • The new accountability system will also include “subgroup” calculations.
    • A subgroup would be identified as needing support ONLY IF that subgroup is in the lowest 5% in the state.

4. Schools previously identified as needing school improvement such as TSI or CSI

    • Under the new accountability system, the school improvement targets will reset (be dismissed) if the school’s new performance overall score indicates the school is on track or distinguished.
