Theme: The Best Scout

This year’s Patrols competition will highlight Scouts’ ability to master the Elements, overcome natural and man-made obstacles, and display great teamwork and leadership. In two words: “Be Prepared”. These traits define the challenges your Patrols will have to successfully navigate to gain the title of 2026 Camporee “Best Scout”.

Fast-thinking, preparedness, adaptability and speed will be some of the key ingredients to success.

Be Prepared to have fun and make new connections!

Our Youth leadership opted to forgo the usual hats or T-shirts (we all have too many which we do not use, right?) and decided to introduce the 2026 Camporee neckerchief!

So… This year, we will provide a neckerchief to all attendees that can be used as such, or as a bandanna, or as an arm ornament, or as a belt loop accessory, or …. (you got that).

Yerba Buena Lodge

Order of the Arrow

History of the Order of the Arrow:

In 1915, Camp Director E. Umer Goodman and Assistant Director Carroll A. Edson searched for a way to recognize select campers for their cheerful spirits of service at Treasure Island Scout Camp on the Delaware River. Goodman and Edson founded the Order of the Arrow when they held their first Ordeal Ceremony on July 18th of that year. By 1921, as the popularity of the organization spread to other camps, local lodges attended the first national gathering called a Grand Lodge Meeting.

The Order of the Arrow was one of many camp honor societies that existed at local Scout camps across the country. As the years went on and more camps adopted the Order of the Arrow’s program, it gained prominence and became part of the national Boy Scout program in 1934. By 1948, the OA, recognized as the BSA’s national brotherhood of honor campers, became an official part of the Boy Scouts of America. Toward the end of the twentieth century, the OA expanded its focus to include conservation, high adventure, and servant-leadership. Throughout the years, the Order of the Arrow has played an integral role in the program of the the Boy scouts and in the community service its members contribute to their communities. To date, more than one million people have been members of the Order of the Arrow.

Presently, the Order of the Arrow consists of nearly 300 lodges which form approximately 48 sections in four regions. Leadership positions and voting rights are restricted to members under the age of 21. Through the program, members live up to the ideals of brotherhood, cheerfulness, and service set forth by Umer E. Goodman and Carroll Edson.

OA Activities at Camporee 2026

  1. Call out ceremony on Saturday night during Campfire, then take Candidates and Members away for the traditional event
  2. All Current OA Members are encouraged to wear their OA Sash during the Call Out ceremony

Traffic & Parking

Head of Traffic & Parking:

What you need to know:

  • For Drop Off:
    • Arrival at and departure from Camp is a time for everyone to be on high alert. There’s lots of people and vehicle movement, and that’s a recipe for trouble if people are not fully engaged and paying attention to ALL instructions from the parking staff.
    • We urge Troops to bring Scouts’ backpacks in with their equipment vehicle. In previous years, Scouts have hiked in with their backpacks. Now, we require Scouts to hike in without their backpacks. It’s a safety thing. The Los Mochos entry area at Mines Rd is very constrained. The rush of people and vehicles makes unloading Scouts with their backpacks very unsafe and therefore unacceptable.
    • Drivers must drop off Scouts in the designated drop off location (see the diagram following) after which Scouts will move to a safe assembly point before hiking into camp and vehicles will leave the area immediately - no sightseeing or photo ops.
    • We do not allow vehicles driving into Camp just to do a Scout drop off, unless medically necessary. In such case, please expect to wait until after 7:30p before being able to drive out.

  • Parking is very constrained:
    • Carpooling is a necessity.
    • We charge $10 (cash only) per gear vehicles to drive into camp and park overnight(s). Exact change please.
    • All vehicles must back into parking spaces so they are facing out to ensure a quick and safe exit.
    • All drivers will receive and must properly display the Parking Permit and indicate Name, Unit Number, Phone
    • The Manzanita drop off area for Troop camping gear accommodates only a few vehicles at a time. Troops need to consolidate their equipment into one vehicle if at all possible. This consolidation may take place in the main parking area. We work as quickly as possible but delays are inevitable.

  • For Webelos (Saturday, April 25):
    • Due to limitations in parking, Webelos must carpool. Follow directions for parking when you arrive from parking staff.
    • $10 (cash only) parking fee will be charged to vehicles with 2 or more Webelos. Exact change, please.

EMERGENCY PLAN C

Armed Incident

GENERAL

RANCHO LOS MOCHOS

NOTE: See PLAN “A” for Serious Accident, Illness, or Fatality

See PLAN "B” for Fire Emergency Response

CAMP MOBILIZATION:

Disperse/Hide/get away as soon as possible and remain hidden. It is likely that it will be at least 30 minutes before officers can arrive even by helicopter. It will take close to an hour for police in force (by vehicle) to arrive.

Range Masters - if possible and it does not affect participants’ safety - should secure the guns at the rifle range. Do not attempt to mount defensive response..

When dispersed call 911, call camp ranger, text parents to contact Alameda County sheriff (510) 268-7905. Provide as much detail as known. For example, if you can estimate number of intruders, weapons used, WHERE THEY ARE AND WHERE THEY ARE GOING. This will halp officers to handle threats. Continue notifications as event unfolds. Everyone is asked to provide information once in safe location.

Once incident is over, camp director will initiate recall via camp bell with a specific number of rings. Number will be provided at evacuation drill. Attendees will reassemble at Flags area to determine missing scouts. Camp medic along with emergency personnel will coordinate medical treatment and evacuation of injured. Search parties will be dispatched to locate missing attendees.

Camp director will coordinate efforts once camp area is secure.

B. Range masters: secure rifles if possible and safe to do so.
