ILL data and shared print

Our question:

Is it interesting and meaningful to combine ILL data with shared print analytics?

How ILL data add value to Shared Print

  • Identify new items for Shared Print retention commitments:
    • Items that circulate heavily via ILL may be good candidates

  • Examine the “health” of your Shared Print program:
    • If you are not supplying items with retention commitments, look at the “reasons for no”
      • Missing, Not on Shelf, Not Owned, Poor Condition - need a new copy
    • For a retained title, is ILL activity across the group equal?
    • For retained titles, is ILL demand different in vs. out of the group?

Not on shelf/missing; Not owned; Poor Condition; Lacking:

  • Consider adding an additional copy for retention at an additional library
  • Owning library should consider purchasing a replacement

Deflection

  • No matter who requests this, the system will respond no; is this intended?

DISPLAYING SHARED PRINT INFORMATION ON ILL LENDING REQUESTS

13 of 19

Benefits of the data

  • Provides visibility of shared print
  • Enables workflows appropriate to each library and shared print program
  • Future step: eventually make this actionable in Automated Request Manager?
