What are the A-G Requirements used for?

• Minimum eligibility for admission to the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU)
• Required high school course work
• Grades of C or better

• English 1-2 or Honors English 1-2
• English 3-4 or Honors Humanities
• American Literature 1-2 or AP English Language
• Expository Reading/Writing 1-2, World Literature 1-2, Ethnic Literature 1-2 or AP English Literature

“B” English

(4 Years Required)

How Will Students Meet these Subject Requirements?

Minimum of Integrated Math 3A-3B

“C” Math

(3 Years Required

4 Years Recommended)

How Will Students Meet these Subject Requirements?

• Life Science (Biology)
• Physical Science (Chemistry, Physics or Geoscience)

“D” Laboratory Science

(2 Years Required

3 Years Recommended)

How Will Students Meet these Subject Requirements?

Must be two years of the same language

Poway offers: Spanish, French and German

“E” Language Other Than English

(2 Years Required

3 Years Recommended)

How Will Students Meet these Subject Requirements?

One year of an approved arts course from a single discipline: Theater, Music or Visual Arts

Examples: Digital Media 1 & Photo 1

Drama 1 & 2

“F” Visual and Performing Art (VPA)

(1 Year Required)

How Will Students Meet these Subject Requirements?

One year chosen from the “A-F” courses beyond those used to satisfy the requirements above

Examples: AP Psychology 1-2, Writing Seminar 1-2, Veterinary Science 1-2, College Algebra 1-2, ect.

“G” College Preparatory Elective

(1 Year Required)

Important Reminders

Grades must be a C or better

CSU and UC calculate GPA based on 10th and 11th grades, but 9th grade still matters!
