Who Should Participate in the Wellness Committee?

Our meetings are open and public, meaning everyone is invited! We encourage diverse representation, including:

What Does the Committee Do?

The committee helps update what is included in our policy and discuss new goals. We also share ideas on what schools are doing around the different topics included in our wellness policy.

Key Aspects of our Wellness Policy:

Nutrition Education

Healthy Eating Topics include among others;

  • Food guidance from MyPlate.gov
  • Reading and using nutrition fact labels
  • Preparing healthy meals and snacks
  • Food safety
  • Social influences on healthy eating
  • Resisting peer pressure

Key Aspects of our Wellness Policy:

Nutrition Education

  • Monitoring and limiting commercial distractions and advertisements of food and beverages, to ensure we are only promoting healthy choices.
  • Our wellness policy supports healthy school breakfasts and lunches.
  • •All other food and beverages sold in school during the school day must follow the Smart Snacks standards.
  • Free, safe, unflavored water is available to students throughout the school day.

Nutrition Education

Celebrations and rewards

All food offered on school campus is encouraged to meet or exceed USDA Smart Snacks standards. This includes during things like class parties and rewards and incentives.

Key Aspects of our Wellness Policy:

Physical Activity

  • All elementary students receive at least 45 minutes of physical education and approximately 15 minutes of supervised play each week.
  • All secondary students take the equivalent of one credit of physical education per academic year.
  • Additionally, daily recess for elementary students, compliments physical education classes.

Other Activities

The schools will promote to parents/caregivers, families, and the general community, the benefits of and approaches for healthy eating and physical activity, and encourage participatory activities.
