��BRIEF INTRODUCTION�

  • In the past we have come across many time keeping devices like
  • Sundials
  • Water Clock
  • Sand-glass
  • Candle Clock
  • Accuracy was a measure concern in the above clocks.
  • Around 14th century Mechanical Wall Clock with escapement mechanism were introduced.
  • These were more accurate than that of the clocks which relied on sun and sand.But the downfall of these clocks happened due to their weak power source.It lead to development of Quartz and Atomic clock.

  • Energy source- The energy is stored in weight or spring.
  • Gears- an interconnected gear forms a train which transmits energy through the timekeeper. The energy source moves slowly and the wheel at the furthest moves quickly.
  • Escapement – This is connected to a quickly moving end of the train . It allows only one teeth at a time. The ticking of the timekeeper is the sound of escapement stopping the wheel tooth.
  • Controller – it is connected to the escapement . It controls the rate at which it allows the teeth to pass . The common controller is a pendulum.
  • Indicator – This is the part of the timekeeper that tells us the time.

  1. Complex Parts were measured by tracing them on paper and later modelled them.
  2. Teeths on Gear were counted visually and subsequent calculation were made.
  3. Gear Train was drawn using Compass.
