HOW TO BECOME A SENIOR AT RHS

UNDERSTANDING THE JUNIOR TRANSCRIPT

• The junior year transcript is the transcript you will use when applying to colleges and trade schools.

​

• The transcript reflects your academic performance(grades), your attendance, test scores, and your involvement courses throughout high school

​

• Grade point average is a calculation of the points attributed to your grades earned.
• Calculated on a four-point scale (unweighted) and includes four cores and two highest years of world language.

​

• Recalculated every semester and included on your transcript. Taking honors/AP courses will allow for weighted calculation (5 points).

​

• CHECK YOUR SCHOOL EMAIL FREQUENTLY
• MONITOR YOUR GRADES AND ATTEND TUTORIALS AS NECESSARY
• KEEP A RUNNING RESUME OF YOUR SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT; JOIN CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS OF INTEREST
• VOLUNTEER IN THE COMMUNITY TO ADD TO YOUR RESUME
• MAKE ANY NECESSARY PLANS TO RECOVER FAILED COURSES OR MAKE UP SEAT TIME FOR ATTENDANCE

College, Career and Military Readiness (CCMR) is about preparing students for life after graduation. CCMR includes curriculum, resources, programs and activities that help students gain the tools they need to enter college, the workforce or the military. As an essential part of Denton ISD culture, CCMR is supported by partnerships with our community, higher education organizations and local businesses. Every student needs to graduate with 1 CCMR point.

You can earn a CCMR point

by enlisting in the Armed Forces

of the United States (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force) or the Texas National Guard.

​

We offer the ASVAB assessment once each semester. You can meet with a military recruiter at RHS, during school.

A CCMR point can be earned from:

​

Dual credit: 3 hours of Math OR English OR 9 hours combined in any other subject.

​

SAT score of 480 EBRW and 530 Math

​

ACT combined score of 40 on English & Reading AND 22 on Math

​

A CCMR point can be earned by completing a CTE Program of Study AND passing the Industry-Based Certification exam:

​

-3 CTE classes in the same career cluster

-at least 4 credits in that cluster

-ONE class must be a Level 3 or 4 course

-an industry certification for that program

​

All classes, credits and certification must be in the same career cluster.

COURSE SELECTION

• 4TH YEAR MATH - ALGEBRA 2, AQR, PRE-CALCULUS, AP PRE-CAL, DC PRE-CAL, STATISTICS, AP STAT/DC STAT, CALCULUS AB, CALCULUS BC (SOME COURSES HAVE PREREQUISITES).
• ENGLISH 4, AP ENGLISH 4, DC ENGLISH 4, BLENDED
• GOVERNMENT/ECONOMICS (REGULAR, AP, DUAL CREDIT) Note: Dual Credit Econ not available on campus during the school year but can be taken over the summer.
• 4TH YEAR ADVANCED SCIENCE - ADVANCED ANIMAL SCIENCE, ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY, ASTRONOMY, Earth Systems Science. FOOD SCIENCE, AQUATIC SCIENCE, FORENSIC SCIENCE, AP BIO, AP CHEM, AP PHYSICS 2, AP ENVIRONMENTAL (SOME COURSES HAVE PREREQUISITES)

• COURSES THAT ARE FAILED MUST BE REPEATED
• OTHER ELECTIVES

• ** NOT ALL CLASSES WILL END UP BEING OFFERED- IT DEPENDS ON REQUESTS, RESOURCES, AND TEACHER AVAILABILITY. THIS IS WHY ALTERNATE COURSES ARE VERY IMPORTANT!

CTE CLASSES

Honors and/or AP Courses

Suggested guidelines in order to be successful advanced academic course:

• Currently already in an honors course with a B average
• Currently in a regular class with an A average
• PSAT results indicate AP potential

These courses are faster paced, offer a rigorous curriculum, are project based, and may require summer assignments.

• Possibility of earning college credit

​

• The curriculum is presented all year, and a national exam is given in May. If you do well, you may earn college credit. Check whether your preferred college accepts this credit, as policies vary.

​

• Exams are $100 with a $50 down payment due in October

​

• These courses help develop college-level academic skills

​

AP/HONORS DROP PROCESS REMINDER:

AP/HONORS COURSE TRANSFERS

• STUDENTS MAY REQUEST A TRANSFER FROM AN AP OR HONORS COURSE:
• AT THE END OF 4 WEEKS IN THE FIRST GRADING PERIOD
• AT THE SEMESTER (WITH ADMINISTRATIVE APPROVAL FOR LATER REQUESTS)

PROCESS:

1. STUDENT AND/OR PARENT CONTACTS THE AP/HONORS TEACHER TO INITIATE THE REQUEST.
2. TEACHER CONTACTS PARENT AND SHARES THE AP/HONORS COURSE WITHDRAWAL FORM.
3. A MEETING WITH STUDENT, PARENT/GUARDIAN, AND TEACHER IS REQUIRED TO REVIEW THE REQUEST.

TRANSFER REQUIREMENTS:

• SPACE MUST BE AVAILABLE IN THE ON-GRADE-LEVEL EQUIVALENT COURSE.
• ALL STEPS MUST BE COMPLETED AT THE TEACHER’S REQUEST.
• REQUEST MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN THE DESIGNATED TIMELINE (END OF 4 WEEKS IN FIRST GRADING PERIOD).
• COURSE CHANGES ARE CONSIDERED CASE-BY-CASE TO DETERMINE WHAT IS IN THE STUDENT’S BEST INTEREST.

• ATTEND DUAL CREDIT NIGHT: JANUARY 15, 2026 @ 6:00 PM @ RHS

• Must have passed all required classes
• Must have passed all EOC test
• Get a dismiss form from your counselor
• Must be signed by parent or guardian
• Turn into the counseling office BEFORE February 14

DO NOT WRITE DISMISS on you course card-put in an actual course and list dismiss in the alternate section. Once dismiss form is returned, we will change your course request.

Aide

• Must have passed all required classes
• Must have passed all EOC test
• Cannot have excessive absences
• Get aide form from your counselor
• Must be signed by parent or guardian
• Turn into the counseling office BEFORE February 14

​

DO NOT WRITE Aide on you course card-put in an actual course and list aide in the alternate section. Once dismiss form is returned, we will change your course request.

• From your Dashboard, complete the “Would You Rather” assessment.
• From the College Tab → School Search, add 1–3 colleges to your list.
• From the Career Tab → Career Center:
• Search for one career of interest.
• Click Education and Training for that career.
• Select a degree program that fits your career path.
• View all schools, colleges, and universities offering that program.
