How Beaver got its name…

  • From the many beavers in the Beaver river.

George A. Smith was the founder of Beaver. He said it was a good place to raise cattle. �They settled in Beaver County in 1856. They planted many crops and grazed livestock there. Beaver is also known for two other important historical events.

In 1858, the first mine in Utah opened in Beaver County near Milford.The mine made lead.They smelted it and shipped it to Salt Lake City to make ammunition (bullets).Beehive-shaped charcoal kilns were used to make fuel for the smelters of Beaver County.

They created a transportation center for the Utah Southern Railroad in Milford in 1880.These railroads carried ore and livestock to Salt Lake.Products of all other kind came on the train to Milford.��

In 2006, Beaver was awarded for having the best tasting water in the United States! They used to have a billboard sign that said they have the best water. They might not have the award anymore, but we think it is the best water.

Popular Events

One popular event in Beaver is to go to the football game! People will line there cars around the football field and watch the game. Most of the town will go and support the team and wear the color blue! They also always light up the B on mountain every night, but during football season they make it blue. You should see it the next time you drive through Beaver.
