Why Go

to college?

Better jobs

    • Easier to get a job with a college degree than without one.

Job Satisfaction

    • Individuals with higher levels of education are more likely to be very satisfied with their jobs

Unemployment

    • The unemployment rate for individuals with at least a bachelor’s degree is consistently about half the unemployment rate for high school graduates.

Pension Plans/Retirement

    • College-educated workers are more likely than others to be offered pension plans by their employers.

Health Insurance

    • 54% of full-time workers with a high school diploma had employer-provided health insurance in 2015, compared with 66% of bachelor’s degree holders and 70% of advanced degree holders.

Poverty

    • In 2014, the overall poverty rate for people aged 25 and older was 12%.

5% for people with a bachelor’s degree or higher, 10%for people with some college but no degree, 14% for people with a high school diploma and no college, 29% for people with no high school diploma

Parenting and Children

    • Children of parents with higher levels of educational attainment are better prepared for school and, while in school, are more likely than other children to engage in educational activities with their parents.

    • FREE MONEY!!! Apply before March 2
    • Must reapply every year, should try to apply at least ONE year before starting.
    • Application is used to apply for financial aid, such as grants, loans, and work-study
    • The questions help to determine your Expected Family Contribution, or EFC
    • You need to apply every year to get financial aid for the following year.
    • Any Financial Aid you are eligible for will be paid to your school to pay tuition, fees etc.

California Kids Investment and Development Savings Program (CalKIDS).

Kids in California are able to get free money in a savings account for college!

You will need:

-to be born in CA on or after July 1, 2022

-be an eligible low-income public school student in grades 1-12 in CA

-foster and homeless students are eligible to be awarded more money.
