KEY TAKEAWAYS & RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE
In the comments, audience members stated that adults need to normalize and prioritize young people’s mental health
One thing I can take away is that not everyone thinks Mental health is important. It is important to prioritize mental health like physical health.
Mental health is not selfish or a luxury, it's critical!
A lot of suffering is done in silence because a lot of people feel like they have no other choice. " Mental health is a priority not a luxury.
Everyday people suffer from mental problems and they aren't allowed help because sometimes it's seen as a luxury instead of a necessity.
KEY TAKEAWAYS & RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE
Audience members commented that adults needed to be brave & fearless to have conversations about mental health
Suffering is done in silence. we must not be fearful of difficult conversations.
Don’t let fear stop me from asking, hugging and listening.
Adults don't engage young people about how they are doing -- not because they don't know but because they DO know and are scared of what will happen when they open the conversation.
We should all be as brave and courageous as our speakers this evening and endeavor to really understand how all the people - not just the young people - in our lives are doing, recognizing that younger people may have open, honest answers to that question for which adults may not be prepared. We have to lean into that discomfort and do our part to lead and love.
KEY TAKEAWAYS & RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE
They advocated for accomplishing this by checking in with youth people regularly
Normalizing mental health and check-ins helps to create a space for people to feel safe in/
Checking in genuinely is SO important! It has to be routine
You never know what someone is going through and it's so important to make those connections and reach out.
Put in that extra effort to build connections with youth. There's always something going on and you never know of the impact a quick check-in can have.
KEY TAKEAWAYS & RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE
And by becoming an ally to young people and amplifying their voices
Advocate for the youth and give them a voice, comfortability to speak and feel vulnerable.
As someone who struggles with mental health, it was amazing to hear young people talking so thoughtfully and deeply about this topic! None of my peers had conversations like this at this age, and I wonder how my young adulthood could have been different if we had.
The impact this has for a Black man like myself, is that it is important to give our Youth a platform to share. Listen so they know they are heard, and support young men and women of color who have a lot happening
