OUR TOPIC:

Addressing Gaps in Learning

We’ve heard phrases in the education world like “Learning Loss” and “Acceleration vs. Remediation”

We also know that much was gained from the past 18 months.

Lessons from home and the community were gained. As we think about differentiating for the varying levels of need in our classrooms, instead of using the term “learning loss”, which holds a deficit-lens, let’s use what was gained from last year to help our students to continue to learn and grow.

Telescope Network June Survey

sample responses:

“How can I fill in the HUGE gaps while still moving forward on grade-level and how do I attend to the differentiation needs?”

And

“How do we gauge students' needs academically and social-emotionally? How do we best meet these needs while keeping up with the demands of the new grade level curriculum?”

Connect & Share Mindset

7

  • Be curious: We’re not here to evaluate the presenter or their schools. Instead, try to be curious, ask good questions, and bring learning back to our own classrooms/schools.

  • Be open minded: It is human nature to play the comparison game. Instead of thinking, “This would never work for me,” try to reframe as “This might work in my setting if .. . “

  • Be a collaborator: We all serve Boston students. Sharing ideas and resources with colleagues helps us to desilo and improve learning across BPS.
