WE ARE HERE TO HELP

• The Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) Program, also known as SEPT, is designed to help newcomer students and their parents settle in school and in the community.

SWIS/SEPT PROGRAM

• Settlement Workers are placed in schools and Reception Centres to facilitate access to information to newcomers.

​

• Connect newcomers to community resources and organizations

​

• Deliver individual/one-on-one services that help participants to understand and to successfully transition into the education system, and to accelerate the settlement process.

​

• Deliver group information sessions on different topics to help high school and elementary students and their parents integrate in school and the community.

​

• Ensure individual follow up and support services adapted to the family need

​

• Citizenship & Immigration related Issues (CTB, PR, Citizenship application etc.) 
• Community services
• Housing information
• Daycare Centers
• Health & OHIP
• Language programs (English/French)

• Income Taxes/Financial Literacy
• Legal Matters 
• Employment readiness
• Volunteer opportunities
• Recreation, After School and Summer programs , Library programs

Newcomer Family/Parent/Student

Referral to Settlement Workers in Schools

​

• Local schools will forward and collect informed consent from the parent/guardian of the student or from the student who is 16 years of age or older and relay this consent form to the appropriate settlement agency. 

​

• Consent forms will be available at the time of registration.  You can ask the schools office to connect you to the School Settlement Worker.

​

• Remember to fill out the SWIS Consent Form.

 SERVICE DELIVERY DURING PANDEMIC TIMES

 Settlement/SEPT Workers continue offering:

.

• Online services (one-on-one and Group services/workshops).) A variety of social communication platforms are used (i.e.: Zoom, WhatsApp, Google Meet, Facetime, phone, e-mails, etc.

​

• Services in-person, by appointment ONLY, as per discretion of the settlement worker.

​

• A COVID-19 Health Assessment Screening Form must be completed prior to attending in-person appointments.
