HISTORY

The lathe is one of the oldest machine tool & came into existence from the early tree lathe which was then a novel device for rotating and a machining a piece of work held between two adjacent trees.

This device continued to develop through centuries and in year 1798 Henry Maudslay , a Englishman, designed the first screw cutting lathe.

Operation of Facing

  • To produce a flat surface at end of workpiece.

  • Make slide surface perpendicular via cutting tool.

15 of 20

Operation of Turning

  • To remove material from the outside diameter of a work piece to obtain a finished surface.

  • Workpiece become cylindrical.

16 of 20

Operation of Knurling

To provide a regularly shaped roughness on the workpiece.

Operation of Threading

  • To produce external or internal threads on the workpiece.

Operation of Drilling

  • To produce a hole on a workpiece.

Operation of Boring

  • To enlarge a hole or cylindrical cavity .

  • Boring produces circular internal profiles in hollow work piece.
