Benefits of taking part in physical activity:
Physical health benefits- stronger bones reduced chances of CHD, obesity, strokes, cholesterol, lowers blood pressure, burns calories.
Emotional health benefits- stress relief, reduced chance of depression, improves self esteem, releases serotonin- a ‘feel good’ chemical.
Social Health benefits- meeting old / new friends, improving cooperation skills , improving teamwork and gaining a good attitude to competing.
Key Vocabulary:
Health: A state of complete emotional, physical and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity.
Well-being: being comfortable, healthy and happy.
Lifestyle choice: the choices we make about how we live and behave that impact on our health.
Physical health: your body’s organs and systems.
Emotional health: how you feel and respond to situations.
Social health: how you interact with others and form relationships.
Aesthetic appreciation: enjoying something because it is pleasing to look at.
