About GDG Tokyo

  • GDG Tokyo has currently 3800+ community members.
  • GDG Tokyo (Former GTUG Tokyo) was established in 2009.
  • I’m the third generation of organizers.
  • Since Akihiro, the other organizer and I became the organizers, we’ve been holding events monthly with 100+ attendees.

Context

  • More and more focused and smaller group of communities are created in our region.
  • That is particularly noticeable in Tokyo where developer’s population is concentrated, and where the IT community culture are more mature
  • Focused and smaller group of communities are:
    • Great for developers to talk about advanced topics
    • It could become intimidating and confusing for beginners to join

  • GDG does not focus on specific technology
    • Sort of the opposite of the current trend of IT community.
