Title I

  • What is Title I?

Title I is a federally funded entitlement program that provides supplemental resources to higher poverty schools.

These resources are intended to:

    • Promote high academic achievement for all children
    • Improve teaching and learning
    • Increase parent and community involvement

Federal

    • Federal Title I funds go to states

State

    • Florida Department of Education gives funds to Florida school districts

Local

    • SDMC gives funds to eligible Title I schools in the district

And how it has helped MSAS families.

Some of the things that Title I has helped provide to MSAS, our students and families include:

  • Updated computer access for all students
  • Access to an extensive list of programs such as, i-Ready, BrainPop, Flocabulary, Study Island and more.
  • Increased opportunity for field trips (pre-COVID)
  • Increased classroom support from teachers-aides.
  • A dedicated Title I coordinator working to strengthen school/parent relationships and provide equal opportunity education to all students.
  • State of the art Interactive Whiteboards in nearly all classrooms.
  • Increased communication opportunities via ClassDojo, fliers, posters and mailers.
  • Title I events and more.

Parent/Guardian Rights

    • To be involved and request regular meetings to express your opinions and concerns;

    • To be provided information on your child’s level of achievement on assessments;

    • To request and receive information on the qualifications of your child’s teachers and paraprofessionals;

    • To be informed if your child is taught by a non-state certified teacher for four or more consecutive weeks.

•Provide opportunities for parents to volunteer at the school

•Provide a mutually respectful relationship between all parties (students, parents, teachers, and volunteers)

Manatee School of Arts and Sciences�2018-19 vs 2020-21 Academic Data

  • Our current school grade is C.

  • 46% of our students scored proficient (3 or higher) on the FSA-English Language Arts in 18-19. In ‘20-21 we increased to 54%. (an 8 point gain)
  • 51% of our students scored proficient (3 or higher) on the FSA-Mathematics in 18-19. In ‘20-21 we decreased to 33% (an 18 point loss)

  • In ‘19-20, 47% of ELA students had learning gains.
  • In ‘20-21, 56% of ELA students had learning gains. (9 point gain)
  • In ‘19-20, 45% of Math students had learning gains.
  • In ‘20-21, 46% of Math students had learning gains. (1 point gain)
