Our study has been intrigued by a research article published in “Scientific Reports” which
reported that a male orangutan self medicate itself to cure its facial wound.

The present study aimed to carry out the documentation of underutilized medicinal plant species and traditional medicinal practices followed in Kodagu, Shimoga and Udupi districts of Karnataka. The reason behind the selection of these districts is that, its having rich floral diversity due to the presence of Western Ghats.
Organize trips to collect plant specimens, document medicinal uses, and photograph plants in their natural habitat.
Record local names, uses, preparation methods, and dosages for each plant.
Collect samples for herbarium deposition and scientific identification.
Record GPS coordinates of plant locations and environmental conditions.
Submit herbarium specimens to a recognized institution for verification and future reference.
Perform extractions and screening for bioactive compounds (e.g., alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids).
Propose strategies involving local communities to sustainably manage and preserve medicinal plant resources.
Prepare scientific papers, reports, or a compendium documenting the underutilized medicinal plants and traditional practices
Provide insights for policymakers to promote the sustainable use and conservation of underutilized medicinal plants.
Build rapport with local healers, tribals, and other stakeholders. Conduct interviews to gather ethnobotanical knowledge
