Part 1: intro

  • Chapter 1:1 - Jesus’s messianic identity is established, the role of John the Baptist is established
  • Chapter 1:19 - The story begins with John the Baptist being questioned by the priests about who he is, and why he is baptizing?, John warns them of the coming of Jesus

Part 2: Jesus calls his disciples

  • John sees Jesus walking by and points him out saying this is the messiah.
  • The next day John sees Jesus and again announces him as the messiah, some of John’s disciples then start following Jesus, these disciples were Andrew and Peter.
  • The next day Jesus calls Phillip to be his disciple, Phillip then recruits his brother Nathanial.
  • Jesus attends a wedding in Cana with his disciples, Jesus’s mother is there, when the wedding runs out of wine Jesus’s mother encourages Jesus to turn water into wine.
  • Jesus, his disciples, and family then travel to Capernaum.

Part 3: Jesus travels to Jerusalem

  • Chapter 2:13 - For Passover festival Jesus travels to Jerusalem, when he arrives he enters the temple and begins overturning the tables of the money changers and merchants.
  • Chapter 3:1 - One night while in Jerusalem, a pharisee named Nicodemus visits Jesus and questions him and Jesus tell him about being born again.
  • Chapter 3:22 - Jesus goes into the Judean countryside and begins baptizing, John is also baptizing elsewhere and continues to spread the news about Jesus
  • Chapter 4:1 – The pharisees hear that Jesus has a greater following then John now, because of this Jesus decides to head back to Galilee.

Part 4: Jesus travels to Galilee

  • Chapter 4:3 - On the way back to Galilee Jesus stops in Samaria at Jacob’s well, here he speaks to a Samaritan women and many Samaritans become believers,
  • Chapter 4:43 - Jesus leaves there and travels to Jerusalem where they welcome him
  • Chapter 4:6 - Jesus heals an officials son

Part 5: Jesus’s 2nd trip to Jerusalem

  • Chapter 5:1 - After this Jesus heads back to Jerusalem for a festival,
  • Chapter 5:2 - While there he goes to the pool of Bethzatha and heals the sick resting there,
  • Chapter 5:10 – Jews begin persecuting Jesus because he is doing these things on the sabbath day
  • Chapter 5:19 – Jesus continues to preach

Part 6: Jesus in Galilee

  • Chapter 6:1 - Jesus travels to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, here great crowds gather to him and he feeds them all with limited supplies
  • Chapter 6:16 - Jesus’s disciples then cross the sea to Capernaum without Jesus, during their voyage Jesus walks out to the boat on water and guides them safely to shore
  • Chapter 6:22 – Jesus continues to preach

Part 7: Jesus’s 3rd trip to Jerusalem

  • Chapter 7:1 - Jesus was avoiding going to Judea out of fear for his life, as some Jews there were still trying to kill him, his brothers try to convince him to go to Jerusalem for the Festival of booths but Jesus refuses,
  • Chapter 7:10 - Jesus then later goes to the festival by himself, many jews are looking for him at the festival, about halfway through the festival Jesus begins to preach at the temple.
  • Chapter 7:32 - The pharisees and chief priests then order him to be arrested but the police are reluctant due to his popularity, Nicodemus advises the chief priests to give Jesus a trial.
  • Chapter 8:1 – Jesus stays the night at the Mount of Olives and then returns the next day to the temple, the pharisees question him, Jesus continues to preach and heal the sick.

Part 8: The plot to kill Jesus

  • Chapter 11:1 - Jesus who is staying at the Mount of Olives during this time raises a man named Lazarus from the dead, Lazarus is the brother of Mary one of his followers and lives in Bethany a city near the Mount of Olives,
  • Chapter 11:45 - After this the pharisees and priest begin to plot to kill Jesus, as Jesus is gaining popularity.
  • Chapter 11:54 - Jesus travels to Ephraim in order to avoid persecution.

Part 9: Jesus’s 4th trip to Jerusalem

  • Chapter 11:55 - Passover festival is happening in Jerusalem and many travel there to celebrate.
  • Chapter 12:1 - Jesus returns to Bethany, while in Bethany Mary is cleaning his feet with some expensive oil, one of Jesus’s disciples Judas Iscariot is angry because the oil is expensive.
  • Chapter 12:9 - The Jews find out Jesus is in Bethany and they travel there, they plan to put him and Lazarus to death.
  • Chapter 12:12 - Jesus travels to Jerusalem, he enters on a donkey and the crowds cheer himi
  • Chapter 12:20 – Some Greeks who are visiting Jerusalem, want to talk to Jesus, Jesus preaches to them, Jesus tells them about his coming death.

Part 10: The Last Supper

  • Chapter 12:36 - Jesus then departs.
  • Chapter 13:1 - Jesus has last supper with disciples and washes their feet, and announces that one of them will betray him, Jesus shows Simon who will betray him (Judas Iscariot), Jesus tells Judas to go to do what he is going to do (betray him), Jesus foretells Peter denial,
  • Chapter 14:1 - Jesus teaches his disciples.

Part 11: Jesus’s Arrest

  • Chapter 18:1 - Jesus and his disciples then travel to a garden, Judas knows the garden and brings a group of soldiers to the garden to arrest Jesus, Jesus goes with them without resisting, but Peter resists and cuts one of the officer’s slaves ears off, Jesus rebukes him.
  • Chapter 18:12 - Jesus is taken before the high priest to be questioned, Peter follows him but denies knowing him when questioned.
  • Chapter 18:28 - Jesus is then taken before Pilate the Roman Governor and questioned, Pilate finds him innocent but when the Jews insist decides to crucify him.
  • Chapter 18:38 - Jesus is crucified, Nicodemus and Joseph a secret disciple of Jesus bury him.

Part 12: The Resurrection of Jesus

  • Chapter 20:1 - Mary visits Jesus’s tomb and finds that it has been opened, she goes to tell Peter who then comes to the tomb
  • Chapter 20:11 - Jesus appears to Mary, Mary goes and tell the disciples
  • Chapter 20:19 - Jesus appears to the disciples
  • Chapter 21:1 – Jesus appears to the disciples at the sea of galilee
