Our First Project: At Risk Flood Zones in Louisiana

This month we turn to Abbeville, Louisiana, which is not only close the the southern coast of the U.S., but also is home to the Vermilion River, which cuts the small town in half. The presence of this river coupled with the close proximity to the warm southern coast, means increased risks of hurricanes and flooding.
These natural disasters grow stronger and less predictable each year as climate change progresses.
By adding unmapped buildings within this town to the map, we make it easier for policy makers to address the level of risk that citizens in this area face. This knowledge is extremely important for disaster preparedness and emergency response!
