Concerns with our Previous Arrival/Dismissal

  • High volume of cars

  • Extreme traffic back up along Route 99

  • Increased number of bus and car accidents last year

  • Safety concerns with families using alternative drop off areas

Anticipated Needs for this School Year

Based on the concerns identified last year, a new car loop procedure is needed to address the following changes:

  • HCPSS extended Waverly’s walker zone to include more than 40 additional households

  • Although families are encouraged to walk and extra bike racks have been requested, we anticipate that many families will become additional car riders or carpool in our bus loop

  • As a result, we anticipate a much longer car loop with a higher volume of cars this year

*New* Arrival/Dismissal Plan

  • An administrator will be stationed at the top of the campus to guide cars

  • Cars will enter Waverly from the west (far) side of Wetherburn Rd. (not at the traffic signal) process through the neighborhood, and turn left to enter the school

  • Buses will enter the school on Wetherburn (at the traffic signal) coming from the traffic light and turn right to enter the school

*New* Arrival/Dismissal Plan (Continued)

  • When exiting, families who live in the neighborhood, please take a right, and families who live outside of the neighborhood, please take a left

  • Note: School staff who work student hours will have a specified decal to distinguish their cars so they can enter from the right with buses

Car Rider

General Reminders

(Continued)

  • Do not exit your car in the middle of the car loop. If you need to help your child, stay in your car until you reach the 1st space in the car loop to exit your car.

  • Please keep your eyes on the road and watch out for small children walking in or near the parking lot.

Car Rider

Safety Reminders

  • Be courteous to the Wetherburn community members. Do not block driveways with your car and allow space for homeowners to enter and exit their neighborhood streets.

  • Stop at all crosswalks and be mindful of our walkers. More young children and their families will be walking or biking to school, so please pay close attention when driving.

  • Listen to the directions of staff members. Once you enter our campus, staff will direct you where to go.

  • Be Patient. We anticipate an extremely long car line this year. The safe arrival and dismissal of students is our priority.

Next Steps

  • During the first quarter, school administrators will monitor the car rider loop and receive feedback from families, community members, and the HCPSS Office of Transportation. If additional modifications are needed, changes will be shared with the community.

  • We appreciate your collaboration and continued support as we navigate our new traffic pattern.
