Understand a story and give appreciation through a video tool

Pedagogical Intention

After reading a novel in class as a group, students learn how to formulate their opinion and appreciation through various activities. In the final task, they answer questions from their teacher via a video response tool to share their opinion and appreciation of the book.

  • Before this final task: students read the novel “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes” in class and did many activities in all three competencies.
  • Review opinion-related functional language.
  • Share different graphic organizers with students so they can use one to prepare for a discussion about the book.
  • In teams of 2 or 3, students share their opinion about the novel. (Opportunity for C1 evaluation).

  • Prepare devices with headphones.
  • Explain how to use the video response tool and model with the class.
  • Students prepare their answers to their teacher’s questions.
  • Students individually record their video response and save it.

  • While students are recording, others do individual work and create a movie poster that represents the story.
  • Share the productions with the teacher.
  • As a group, students give their appreciation of this activity.
  • Explain that the preparation tools can be used in future activities.
