OUR MISSION

To engage, excite, and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in architecture, construction, and engineering through mentoring and to support their continued advancement in the industry.

ACE is a free after-school program open to any high school student with the curiosity and drive to learn about the various career paths in the design & construction

industry.

  • No student is turned away.

  • The program is free to students.

  • Parents or guardians must sign permission forms to enroll their student.

Who Are the Students?

  • 9th-12th graders
  • Currently attending schools in the Greater Boston area
  • Interested in learning about architecture, engineering, and construction management.

WHAT WE DO

Students work closely with mentors throughout the program to design and construct a hypothetical project in

order to learn about each discipline.

This year, students will design

a community arts center.

COVID

Last year, the program ran entirely online. This year, the program will start online and add in-person meetings.

Later in the school year, we will add in-person events to meet your mentors and tour building sites.

Program Structure

IN PERSON

  • Sessions take place weekly after school from October-March.
  • For the 2021-2022 school year, students will attend one session per week online.
  • We will add in-person events later in the school year.
  • Masks and other safety procedures will be required at our in-person events until further notice.

  • There will be optional career panels on some Thursdays in conjunction with the National Organization of Minority Architects, Boston Chapter

Who Are the Mentors?

  • Mentors work in the A/C/E fields.
  • The mentors are all volunteers who want to give back and encourage students.
  • All mentors undergo background checks through ACE National.
  • There will always be 2 or more mentors on a Zoom or with the students in-person.

Scholarships

At the final presentation, scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors. In 2021, ACE of Greater Boston was able to award $168,000 of college scholarships to 27 students at the end of the academic year!

We also match students with paid summer internship opportunities.
