Chromebook Won’t Turn On

Cause: Battery is dead or device is not responding.

Solution:

  • Ensure the device is charged; plug it in and wait 5-10 minutes.
  • Ensure the charging indicator light is on. Red means no charge, amber means partial charge.
  • Press and hold the power button and refresh button for 10 seconds, then release and press power again.
  • Check if the charger is connected to a working outlet.

Chromebook is Running Slow

Cause: Too many tabs or apps are open, or memory is full.

Solution:

  • Close unnecessary tabs and apps.
  • Restart the Chromebook.
  • Clear browsing data: Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear Browsing Data.
  • Clear cache and cookies: Select 'Cookies and other site data' and 'Cached images and files' and then select the time range 'for all time'.

Can’t Connect to Wi-Fi

Cause: Wifi signal is weak, or network settings are incorrect.

Solution:

  • Check if Wifi is turned on: Click the bottom right corner > Wi-Fi icon.
  • Disconnect and reconnect to the Wi-Fi network.
  • Restart the router; try again.

Apps or Websites Not Working

Cause: App or browser issue, or Chromebook needs updates.

Solution:

  • Refresh the page by pressing Ctrl + R.
  • Check for updates: Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for Updates.
  • Clear cache and cookies: Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear Browsing Data, then select 'Cookies and other site data' and 'Cached images and files' and then select 'for all time'.

Keyboard or Touchpad Not Responding

Cause: System glitch or hardware issue.

Solution:

Videos not loading or won’t play

Solutions:

  • Close all unnecessary tabs.
  • Clear your cache and cookies.
  • Check your internet connection.

Assignments not showing

Solutions:

  • Ensure that the student is logged in to the correct account.
  • Verify with the teacher that the student is in the correct class. Sometimes teachers need to re-sync their Edpuzzle and Google Classroom classes.

Zscaler Issues

Cause: Not logged in to zscaler (filters websites and blocks harmful content)

Solution: Make sure you

are leaving out the s. in

the email address.

Zscaler login is student username@tcsnc.org (without the s.)

  • Example:
    • normal login 21lbowers@s.tcsnc.org
    • Zscaler login 21lbowers@tcsnc.org

Make sure password is typed in correctly.
