After the training, they will develop a project:

  • Create a new package, or
  • go through the review process with an R �package you have already developed, or
  • become a reviewer in our peer review system.

Champions will also choose and perform several activities, such as running recruitment activities, giving presentations, writing blog posts, and organizing peer groups in their communities.

Mentors

After the training, they will

  • Advise.
  • Connect their mentees to people, programs, and organizations;
  • Recommend, resources, readings, training, and experiences;
  • Provide feedback on the mentee’s project and outreach activities.

During the program you will

  • Meet at least one a month.
  • Discuss and plan your activities for the project.
  • Discuss and plan your outreach activities.
  • Participate in cohort meetings (optional for mentors)

Agenda - Big picture

April-July 2024. Develop project: Go through the review process as an author, or as a reviewer, or build the package of their choice

August - October 2024. Develop Project - Outreach.

Champion’s host: a workshop or deliver a talk on a conference/event, or write a blog post. Also host one community event to gather feedback to improve rOpenSci’s projects.

November 2024. End of term. Close cohort and define new roles.

December 2023 - April 2024. Kick-off and training.

March 2024. Presentation of projects. Champions' 5 minutes presentations of their project and get feedback.

June 2024. Reflections on projects. Champions will be invited to share takeaways from their projects with the cohort.

November 2024. Reflections on program. Champions and mentors will be invited to share takeaways from the program with the cohort and start to define future roles for Champions.
