Things to consider

Decide on the purpose of the lesson

What do you want your students to get out of it?
What are the learning targets/objectives?
What exemplars can you provide to help students understand success criteria?

Plan out key points you want to address

Create an outline for yourself to ensure that you cover the main points of the lesson

Think about the timing of your videos

Keep recordings short-what is the most essential content that needs to be addressed
Remember the attention span of the students you teach
If you have a lot of material to cover, chunk the materials into multiple videos

Things to consider

Use expression and look at the camera!

Building engagement will be important and having students feel that you are teaching TO them will help to engage them in the lesson

Practice, Practice, Practice!

The power of technology is the ability to do it over!
Do not be afraid to laugh and make mistakes either-it humanizes you for your students

When recording:

Run the video a few seconds before and after your lesson to help with cutting important information out

Think about your background and check what’s in view behind you
Adjust your lighting
Shut out your most distracting housemates and pets
Use the chat feature
Check private chat messages before you send them
Turn off your camera at appropriate times
Speak clearly into the camera and not the screen
Talk in a normal voice level
Notify your audience if you are recording
Mute your audio while typing
Silence your other devices

Don’t share the link publicly
Don’t keep the link open when you are not using it
Don’t forget you are still in school. Conversations should be appropriate and timely
Don’t forget there is a private chat feature
Don’t forget that private chats can be logged by the school
Don’t leave your microphone on when you aren’t speaking
Don’t move around a lot
