INTRODUCTION

  • A filter is an electrical network that can transmit signals within a specified frequency range.
  • This frequency range is called and other frequency band where the signals are suppressed is called attenuation band or stop band.
  • The frequency that separates the pass and attenuation bands is known as cut-off frequency.

WORKING OF LOW PASS FILTER

  • With the increase in frequency of the input signal, the shunt capacitive reactance decreases. This will allow more current to be returning back to the source through the low impedance path.
  • At higher frequency, the entire input current returns to the source through the shunt branch which becomes practically a short circuit link at this frequency.

WORKING OF HIGH PASS FILTER

  • At high frequency, capacitive reactance in the series arm decreases while the inductive reactance in the shunt arm increases.
  • Hence the section allows the passage of higher order frequencies blocking the lower order frequencies.
