Lesson Plan for K.3.4 Weather Video and Hat

Lesson Objective: Students will use vocabulary words rain, snow, wind, sun and thunderstorms.

Engage: Check In (zones) and Connect with Students. Movement break (optional)

I Do: Look outside! What is the weather like? In your Weather Journal, write down what the weather is like for today.

We Do: Watch weather video from generation genius.

You Do: Make a weather hat! Students will create a hat to wear on their head using two half sheets of paper. Before taping / stapling it together, students will color and then glue on different types of weather pictures. You will want to double check that the two sheets are the right size to turn into a hat before you start having students add the pictures.

  • You can play an “I spy” type game with them to practice vocabulary while building the hat. For example: Say “spy the sunny weather”, then have the students find the sunny one, color it, and glue it to their hat. Then say “I spy a cloudy weather”, and repeat the process until all drawings have been colored and added to their hat.

Assessment: Activity completed in “we do” section - students use vocabulary words to describe photos.

Printable for weather hat (1 per student), do not print back to back!
