Lord, Jesus Christ, our leader and perfecter of faith, I desire to follow your teachings and live as you call me to live. Give me the grace to persevere on the path of discipleship so I may grow closer to you and grow to be more like you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I commit to live my life as your disciple, to share your light with others and to allow your Holy Spirit to guide me today and forever.

Many participants may have never had the opportunity to publicly proclaim they are disciples of Jesus Christ. The following prayer of commitment may be incorporated into Session 7 following personal reflection.

Intro: Pathways to Discipleship is designed to help us learn to live like Jesus. It’s easy to assume that everyone who comes to Mass on Sunday is living like a disciple of Jesus, but that’s not necessarily the reality. As we’ve learned over these past many weeks, it takes intention and practice to live the way Jesus lived. One important thing about being Jesus’ disciples is we never actually stop.

Today, we’re all going to have the opportunity to commit to being a disciple of Jesus. Invitation: If you don’t feel like you’ve had the opportunity to publicly commit to follow Jesus and live like Jesus, we want to give you that opportunity today. If you feel like you’ve already publicly committed, then you can remain seated, but if you haven’t and you want to publicly commit to be Jesus’ disciple, I invite you to stand up now. If you feel that you have already publicly committed to be a disciple of Jesus, but would like to recommit today, please either stand alongside your brothers and sisters or you can remain seated if you wish. Together let’s pray a prayer of commitment and ask the Lord for His grace as we follow
