First, Let’s put things into perspective:

The Earth is 4.6 billion years old. Let’s scale that to 46 years. We have been here for 4 hours. Our industrial revolution began 1 minute ago. In that time, we have destroyed more than 50% of the world’s forests. This isn’t sustainable.

Mission Statement

Treesistance is a movement and an impact blueprint centered on the protection of primary rainforest.

Through an Indigenous-led, science-based approach, we focus on the prevention of forest crime by training, equipping and helping local communities thrive. Our disruptive models deliver tangible and lasting results.

Our mission is to shift attitudes towards climate action, how we interact with the natural world and inspire systemic change.

  • It is the world’s largest Rainforest - 6.7million km2 (Western Europe is 2.27 million km2).

  • 400 billion trees releasing 20 billion tonnes of water each day, affecting weather patterns all over the world.

  • 75 billion tonnes of carbon stored in the trunks and branches of the trees (over a ¼ of global forests total).

AND

WE ARE ON

THE BRINK OF

NO RETURN

  • We are losing around 5 football fields of Amazonian trees per minute. This is over 11,500km2 in the last year.
  • The Amazon rainforest has been a huge carbon sink, but in 2021 and for the first time in human history, areas have been emitting more CO2 than it is able to absorb.

  • Scientists mark the tipping point of the Amazon as a tipping point for our global ecosystem, stating that if we lose the Amazon we will freefall into an irreversible global eco-disaster.

Sounds simple. what's going wrong?

  • Estimated $850+ billion was spent in 2021 to combat climate change. And this is rising significantly each year.
  • In the last decade, less than 0.74% of funding has supported Indigenous Peoples rights and forest management.
  • Only 17% of these funds went to projects that involved an Indigenous organization (representing 0.13% of funding)

Access

to Justice

It is imperative that there is access to justice for all peoples. Without rule of law and the ability to protect their lands, there is no possibility for communities to prosper. As such, Access to Justice is the foundation of everything we do.

Digital Equity

Communications and internet access are essential for Forest Guardians. For real-time contact with the authorities and for health, education, security, trade etc. As the remote location of many communities puts them in danger from those attempting illegal activities within their territories.

25 of 35

TREESISTANCE

025

Renewable

Energy

It is essential we stop the reliance on fossil fuels. Currently, gasoline / diesel is required by the majority of communities for basic necessities like lighting and charging devices through fuel generators. Furthermore, large quantities are needed to travel the vast distances between communities for trade, healthcare, education or even to patrol territories. This keeps Indigenous peoples in a cycle of poverty and creates an environment in which there is exploitation.

26 of 35

TREESISTANCE

026

Economic Development

Without the prospect of economic self-determination and a financially stable future, it is not possible for Indigenous communities to continue protecting nature. We need to help lift Indigenous peoples out of poverty and in collaboration create economic models that allow both the local people and biodiversity to thrive. Ultimately, we need to ensure the Forest is worth more standing than cut down.
