Triol integrated solutions
All the mentioned challenges can be resolved by automation tools.
Triol integrates it's into the VFD to provide the ready solution package all-in-one
Let’s see how it works!
Challenges and solutions of the multi pump configuration
The flow variation in water distribution system has a wide range.
Using the multi pump system without frequency control of all pumps always leads to asymmetric distribution of the flow between the pumps.
If flow demand is not matched with the number of rated flows of the pumps one or more pump will operate far from Best Efficiency Point (BEP)
Challenges and solutions of the multi pump configuration. System efficiency
Pump that operates with 30-40% load factor can have 40-50% efficiency
Challenges and solutions of the multi pump configuration. Pumps components lifetime
Operation far from the BEP can multiply a maintenance cost up to 10 times
Triol Solution for multi pump configuration
Triol multi-pump master-follower algorithm
User enters the pumps curves to the master drives
Master drive receives the pressure or flow feedback from the sensor and distribute the flow between the pumps to achieve the operation point as close as possible to the BEP
Benefits of Triol Solution for multi pump configuration
Triol Multi pump master-follower algorithm provides operation in range 75-115 % of the BEP
For particular pump it allows increase
Low-cost solutions for multi pump configuration
For some customers the main factor in solutions choice it the project overall costs even if more complex solution provides better efficiency and faster payback
Solution one: VFD with cascade controller with direct start
Advantage – low equipment cost (40% less than master follower)
Disadvantage – lower efficiency, higher maintenance cost, electric surges
Solution two: VFD with cascade controller with soft start
No surges
75 % equipment cost less than less than master follower but with lower efficiency and higher maintenance cost
PID Control challenges. Intellectual energy consumption analysis function*
To adjust the system properly – engineer should know the instant system efficiency
Minimal possible power can be calculated with the parameter that VFD takes from sensors or recalculated from performance curves
Real consumed power can be measured by VFD directly
Intellectual energy consumption analysis function of AT24 VFD can show
How much kW*h you need for pump 1 m3 in properly adjusted system
AND
How much energy you really spent in any time of the day
* unique feature of Triol
PID Control challenges. Operation by Q/H characteristic
VFD parameters such as RPM or Amps are not friendly to the hydraulic engineer and not give the key information about the pump performance
AT24 UC builds the actual Q/H characteristics and show the actual working point in real time
PID Control challenges. Pressure compensation
If the pressure feedback sensor is installed far from the pump discharge, there is an additional integral error that lower the PID operation quality.
Triol AT24-UC provides the pressure compensation algorithm that allows to make easy PID adjustments and increase the control performance.
Pumping system emergency protection.
Dry running and closed valve operation
Dry running, or running against a closed
valve, can cause enormous heat buildup
in the pump, seizure of parts, and, in a
worst‑case scenario, lead to an explosion.
VFD operates with enough parameters to detect incorrect operation and protect the equipment.
Triol AT24 has the algorithm for protection against dry running and closed valve operation
Pumping system emergency protection. Tube leak of protection
Knowing the performance curve, it’s always easy to detect the leaks when your loss the head and still have the flow
Triol AT24 VFD does it
Pumping system emergency protection. Pump fill
If the pump running in normal mode with the empty pipe it can lead to the hydraulic surges that damage the equipment
Automatic pump filling mode integrated into the VFD allows to avoid this issues without any integrations into the SCADA
Triol AT24 provides the empty pipe filling mode
