The Amazon Rainforest is one of the wildest, and unexplored places in the world.
The Amazon Rainforest is in South America, and takes up a huge amount of space! The rainforest is 5,600.000 square kilometres in area. New Zealand is only 260,000 square kilometres.
This means you could fit 21 New Zealand's inside the Amazon Rainforest.
No wonder it still hasn’t been fully explored!
THE AMAZON’S PLANTS
3
The Amazon Rainforest are sometimes called “The Lungs of the World” because the millions of trees, and plants all breathe out oxygen that humans and animals need to survive.
The Amazon, by itself creates 16% of the worlds oxygen. This doesn’t sound like much, but losing it would make a huge difference.
This is why stopping “deforestation” (cutting down the trees) in the Amazon, and all over the world is so important.
THE AMAZON’S ANIMALS
The Amazon Rainforest is home to a huge number of animals that can only be found in the there; birds monkeys, cats, snakes and frogs of all sizes and shapes call the Amazon Rainforest home.
