What is a volunteer?

What is his/her role?

"A volunteer is any individual who assists at a school site or District office without monetary compensation. This includes parents, community members, interns, and in some cases, high school or college students who are assisting classified and certificated personnel."

The role of volunteers is to assist the school to improve the academic achievement of all students and support the District’s goal of 100 % graduation and ensuring that all students are "Ready for the World".

  2. California Megan’s Law clearance
  3. TB or X-ray clearance
  4. electronically sign the Liability Waiver and Volunteer Commitment Form

  • must attend a mandatory Logan volunteer training. Held monthly after CCPC.

What is the Logan Volunteer Agreement?

  1. Sign-In at the Front Desk and Wear a Volunteer Vest and Badge
  2. Parent volunteers must check in at the front desk and wear the volunteer vest and badge (in Parent Center).
  3. The badge must include a current photo of the volunteer (after picture day).
  4. Knowing where our parents are is vital, especially in emergencies.
  5. Also, parents must sign in and out on the volunteer roster located in the parent center.

2. Respectful/Citizenship

  • Parent volunteers are role models of the be safe, be respectful, be responsible behavioral expectations.
  • We expect all adults to remain composed at all times in order to foster an environment effective for learning.

3. Confidentiality

  • You may become aware of sensitive information related to a student's academic performance, behavior, or personal circumstances.
  • Maintain student privacy by keeping this information confidential. Do not discuss what you see or hear with other parents or students.
  • Maintaining confidentiality helps build trust, protects student dignity, and ensures a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

4. Questions and Issues

  • Each teacher is responsible for making decisions that serve the best interest of the entire class.
  • If a problem, concern, or issue arises, we ask that it be brought directly to the teacher's or administrator’s attention in a private and timely manner.
  • The expectation is that parent volunteers observe and report, never intervene.

5. Helping the Teacher and the Class

  • Please keep your role as parent and volunteer separate. Allow your child to navigate classroom routines and school procedures and solve problems on their own.
  • Your primary role is to support our school’s instructional and safety efforts, therefore you might not always be placed in your child’s class.
  • Parents can volunteer for a minimum of 30 minutes and up to an hour in the classroom each day
  • In the classroom, volunteering has to be approved with the teacher and administrator.

6. Child’s Attendance Rate

  • Regular attendance helps support the academic success of both the students and the class as a whole.
  • Ensure your child is maintaining a proficient rate or a basic rate.

  • These attendance rates will be measured by the 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150 days of school benchmarks.

Independent Study

  • If you know your child will be absent for two weeks, please let front office or our PSA, Ms. Espana, know.
  • Your child could receive credit for coursework and not be marked absent.

  • We highly encourage our volunteers to register for parent portal. This will provide 24/7 access to your child’s academic info., attendance records, and school communication.

7. Chaperoning a Field Trip

  • Parent volunteers will be eligible to chaperone field trips after completing 4 hours of volunteer work on campus.
  • Priority for field trip chaperoning will be given to parents who volunteer regularly.
  • These decisions will be made by Parent Rep and administration.

8. Training

  • Your volunteer role is pending until you have completed a mandatory training session led by the school administrator.
  • Attendance at this training is required before you may begin volunteering on campus.

9. Restorative Practice for Parent Volunteers

  • Maintaining a safe, respectful and positive environment for our students is top priority.
  • Disregard for rules will result in a written warning and volunteer privileges will be suspended for one month.
  • The next non-compliance will result in permanent revocation of volunteer privileges for the remainder of the school year.

  • if parents notice suspicious activity or something wrong at school, please contact the administrator IMMEDIATELY.

Ensure you follow District policies such as the discrimination or harassment policies, the LAUSD Code of Conduct with Students and the LAUSD Employee Code of Ethics.

If parents observe something that does not require immediate attention from an administrator, please write your observation in the Parent Observation Box.
