The Slushie Challenge
Gallon bag Quart bag Ice cubes Salt Beverage
Step 1. Gather your materials
Step 2. Get your tools
Tablespoon Empty cup Gloves
Timer
SStep 3: Add 6-12 ice cubes to the gallon bag
Step 4: Put in 4 tablespoons of salt and stir.

Step 5: Add your favorite juice, pop , kool aid, lemonade or sports drink to the quart bag. Fill the bag about ¼ full.
Squeeze out air when you securely seal the bag.

Step 6: Put sealed small bag inside the large bag with ice and salt. Seal the large bag.

Step 7: Get your timer ready. Put on your gloves.

Step 8: Start the timer as you begin to shake the bag. How long will it take until the liquid changes?

Step 9: Keep shaking the bag until the liquid changes and turns into a Slushie. Stop the timer and write down the time.

Step 9: Open up the large bag, remove the small bag and rinse it off quickly in cold water. Pay special attention to rinse off the opening. You don’t want any of the salt water getting into your delicious slushie. Write down how long it took the liquid to freeze.

Step 10: Pour the Slushie mixture into a cup. Enjoy!

The Science behind make a Slushie
When salt is added to ice it lowers the freezing point, making the salty icy mixture colder than ice alone. If you have a thermometer you can verify this fact. Pure water freezes at 32°F, but when salt is added to ice the mixture gets down to around 0°F. This is cold enough to freeze juice! Stirring the juice frequently ensures that the frozen parts mix with the liquidy parts, making a yummy slushy mix. If you leave your juice long enough it will freeze solid!\\
