General Information

School begins at 8:20 (Students are considered late after 8:25am)

Absences

• Absent notes are required. Absences are recorded on HS applications, report cards, etc.
• High Schools look at 6th & 7^th grade report card grades and attendance for the year.

Cell Phone Policy- Yondr

Cell phone use is not permitted in the classrooms. Students will place there cellphones in the Yondr pouch every morning and lock the pouch. After this is done they will store their cellphone in their book bags. Students are not allowed to hold their cell phones in their pockets. At the end of the day students will unlock their Yondr pouch and can then have access to their phones once they exit the school building. Use of cell phones will result in confiscation. Parents will be notified to pick up their child’s cell phone from Ms. Katechis.

PS 19 Bathroom Policy

• Students are prohibited from using the bathroom the LAST 10 minutes of the period and the FIRST 10 minutes of the following learning period. This is a 20 minute window where students are not allowed to leave the classroom for safety reasons.

Expectations

• We ask that the children work hard and try their best. They are encouraged to ask questions

and work with their peers

• Absences: students are responsible for getting their assignments and missing notes and HW
• Supplies: Students are required to have a notebook and a folder
• Typical Day … 

Classwork – Learning targets are written in notebooks. Notes are modeled with

responses for reading done in class. Writing on different topics and utilizing different

formats will be done mostly in class with some assignments completed at home. For student comfort, Google Docs will be utilized.

Homework – Homework is given most nights. It will consists of nightly reading responses and writing assignments that are given to reinforce the day’s lesson. Students are to read their independent reading books for at least 30 minutes each night. A homework log is posted on google classroom and updated daily.

• Curriculum

We will be studying various units this school year from the Expeditionary Learning curriculum.  Short response writing pieces and extended response essays will relate to the various works of literature that we read.  Additional books may be added based on the needs and interests of our students.

Where Can I see my Child’s Grades and Behavior?

Grades: Teachers input through DOE’s Gradebook. Each student has their own account, that can be linked with their parents. Parents then can go onto DOE Grades to review students grades. This is a new grading system for all teachers so please bare with us as we navigate through it!

​

PBIS: is a schoolwide PBIS management system that assists schools in their Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support program. It recognizes students for meeting behavior expectations from anywhere in the school, not just the classroom. All students are provided with an ID Badge that they must wear during the

school day.

Ways to Support Families at Home: Google Classroom

Google Classroom is a great place for students to keep up to date with assignments and review class material. In addition, several resources are posted to support students’ learning.
