Analysis

Quizlet is an online learning tool allowing users to study anything through a variety of means. The app has an easy onboarding process and intuitive design resembling current IOS architecture making the app easy to navigate. Graphics (color scheme, buttons, placement) are aesthetic and intuitive. The app allows users to create their own vocab lists and access those others have made. It also has filters to facilitate navigation for those looking for specific coursework. Quizlet incorporates various modes of learning i.e. tests, matching, etc. to cater to a wide range of learning styles and allows users to easily share vocab sets through email, text. Words with Friends

WORDS WITH FRIENDS

Strengths

  • A highly collaborative app that allows users to connect with friends and other randomly generated users of the app which can make learning more fun.
  • Very heavily reward-based with features like coins you can earn by winning games and daily/weekly streaks which can be helpful for increasing engagement.
  • Familiar launch experience with the typical Apple, Google and Facebook log-in options.

Weaknesses

  • No onboarding process leaving users with little information on how the app works or where to start..
  • Interface is not intuitive. Since there is no onboarding process, an intuitive interface is a must which this app severely lacked in.
  • Buttons are hard to navigate as the color scheme was not intentionally designed. Buttons tend to blend with the background making navigation hard.
  • App is far from visually aesthetic (too many colors, not enough contrast between colors.)
  • App is riddled with ads that are constantly popping up. Certain ads are forced ads and given that the buttons are barely visible, ads are difficult to navigate

Analysis

Words with Friends is an collaborative word game that allows users to expand their vocabulary through classic games. The app is based on a strong rewards system i.e. coins, daily/weekly streaks, trophies which can increase engagement with the app. Words with Friends is also highly collaborative, allowing users to play and learn with both friends and randomly generated users which can make learning more fun. The app, however, is riddled with adds making it difficult to focus on the app’s content. Further, the color scheme and buttons were poorly chosen (little contrast, non-intuitive placement of buttons) making the app difficult to navigate and operate. Lastly, there is virtually no onboarding process and given the lack of intuitive design, navigation of the app and its’ games is extremely difficult.

Analysis

Magoosh is an online test preparation tool allowing users to study for specified coursework through vocabulary building. Magoosh fulfills its purpose of providing specified learning for those with specific learning needs. The application has minimal ads which helps learners focus on the coursework. Magoosh has visuals helping users track progress and provides collaborative learning opportunities to test knowledge. The interface, however, is not visually appealing and could use more UI investment. The onboarding process, while simple, has room to improve in terms of making users familiar with the interface. The app heavily relies on flashcards and doesn’t allow users the flexibility to create their own decks. Lastly, since the app is only geared towards specific coursework, it limits potential audience.
