Teresi
Grace grew up in Castroville.
She first grew sugar snap peas on her parents’ cattle ranch.
Phil grew up on a cherry and apricot farm in Santa Clara.
His family comes from Italy, where they were farmers.
Grace and Phil got married and started Miramonte Farms. Their children and grandchildren help out on the farm!
San Juan Bautista is 100 miles from San Francisco.
You can drive there in about 90 minutes.
The farm is in the city of San Juan Bautista.

In California, Winter Squash is planted in the spring...
SPRING is April, May and June

FALL is October, November and December.

Winter Squash and Sweet Potatoes are both the Harvest of the Month. Why?
They look very different...
Winter Squashes are fruits, because they have seeds...

...but Sweet Potatoes are root vegetables-- no seeds inside!

Sweet Potatoes grow below the ground.
Winter squash grows above the ground, on vines.
Why are they both Harvest of the Month?
They are both harvested in the Fall.
They are both very, very ORANGE!
Orange fruits and vegetables are high in Vitamin A.
They both can be made into soup or into pie or...
...they can be baked!
They both are delicious!
