What is Models Of Teaching

  • Development of models of teaching is one of the recent innovations in teaching.

A number of educationists and psychologist have proposed model- approach of teaching.

In India, the first National Project on Models Of Teaching was planned, designed, and executed during 1985-86

Definitions Of Models Of Teaching

  • Allen and Ryan (1969) : Modeling is an individual demonstrating particular pattern which the trainee learns through imitation.
  • Joyce and Weil (1972) : Teaching model is a pattern or plan, which can be used to shape a curriculum or course to select instructional materials and to guide a teacher’s actions.
  • Paul D. Egan et al(1979) Models are prescriptive teaching strategies designed to accomplish particular instructional goals.

  • Educators and psychologist have designed several types of teaching models which provide suitable guidelines to the teachers for modifying the behavior of the learners.
  • so we can say models of teaching may be defined as a blueprint designed in advance for providing necessary structure and direction to the teacher for realizing the stipulated objectives.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A TEACHING MODEL

  • Specification of learning outcomes :-

All model of teaching specify what the students should perform after completing an instructional sequence.

  • Specification of Environment :-

A teaching model specifies in definite terms the environmental conditions under which a student’s response should be observed.

  • Specification of criterion of performance:-

A model of teaching specifies the criterion of performance which is expected from the students.

  • Specification of operations:-

A model of teaching specifies the mechanism that provides for the reaction of students and interaction with the environment.

Functions of Teaching models

  1. They help in bringing about desirable changes in the behavior of the leaner.
  2. They help in finding out ways and means of creating favorable environmental situations for carrying out teaching process.
  3. They help in achieving desirable teacher-pupil interaction during teaching.
  4. They help in the construction of a curriculum or contents of a course.
  5. They help in the proper selection of instructional

Materials for teaching the prepared course or the curriculum.

  • They help in designing appropriate educational activities.
  • They help in the formation of a theory of teaching.
  • They help to establish teaching and learning relationship empirically.
  • They stimulate the development of new educational innovations.

Fundamental Elements

A teaching model is described with some fundamental elements. Here, we would be using the following six elements :-

  1. FOCUS :-

It is a central aspect of teaching model. For what the model stands is the theme of the Focus.

2. SYNTAX :-

This term refers to the description of the model in action. Each model consists of several phases and activities which have to be

Arranged in specific sequence quite unique to a particular model . The syntax helps a teacher use the model, and how he should and begin proceed further.

3. PRINCIPLES OF REACTIONS :-

While using the model, how a teacher should regard and respond to the activities of the student is a concern of this element. These responses should be quite and selective. Through its provides the teacher with particular and unique

Rules of thumb by which to tune in to the student and select appropriate responses to what the student does.

  1. SOCIAL SYSTEM :-

This element refers to the following descriptions :-

  • Interactive roles and relationships between the teacher and the students.
  • The kinds of norms that are encouraged and the student behavior that is rewarded.

5.SUPPORT SYSTEM :-

This elements refers to the additional requirements beyond the usual human skills or capacities from the teachers and the facilities or schedules available in an ordinary classroom.

6.APPLICATION :-

The last element describes its application aspects. through its context tries to describe specific educational goals.
