How can we connect our students if we are not connected as educators?

Teachers are becoming illiterate if the don’t know how to properly use a #.

More ideas for your classroom

  1. Post information about upcoming tests and project deadlines.
  2. Link to websites that will help students complete research projects, reinforce what was taught in class or prepare for an upcoming test.
  3. Tweet throughout the day about what students are studying to keep parents and caregivers in the loop.
  4. Have students respond to questions from a historical (or fictional) character’s point of view through tweets.
  5. Link to collaborative documents, such as Google Docs, for students to collaborate on during and after school.
  6. Have students debate on issues related to your content area, local or national political topics.
  7. Have students tweet and share pictures of what they are seeing and doing on class field trips.
  8. Share links to students’ blogs and ask others to comment.
  9. Find other classrooms to connect and collaborate with from across the globe or in a specific region you are studying.
  10. Create a live (back channel chat) during class discussions. Have students tweet their questions or comments during instruction.
  11. Ask questions of professionals (in your community or globally).
  12. Create a mystery guest activity with an individual or another classroom. Students try to guess where the guest is from or does by asking the guest questions through tweets. The guest answers the questions and can provide additional clues to help them guess where they live or what they do.
  13. Have students write a book, movie or music review (based on what is being taught in the classroom or for a specific audience).
