When navigating the college process, it is easy to stay focused on the sticker price of tuition, however, there are many financial aid opportunities to explore
WUE-

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE, pronounced “woo-ee”) is a tuition-discount agreement administered within the 16 western states. WUE is offered at more than 160 public (two and four year) colleges and universities. The program lowers a participating student’s tuition to 150 percent or 1.5x of the school’s resident tuition—annually saving students an average of $9,000. Keep in mind, not all public schools within the western states offer WUE and WUE is implemented differently across all participating colleges/universities.

Many schools offer scholarships specifically for CA students
Merit based scholarships

Some automatically consider students for them and others require students to apply for financial aid

Many private colleges with a larger cost of attendance, can offer very generous financial aid and scholarship packages that create less out of pocket expenses.
Some private schools meet 100% of need.

Define “Meet 100% of need”- A school that promises to ensure every penny of an accepted student’s demonstrated financial need is covered through grants, work-study, scholarships, and in some cases, federal student loans. (College Greenlight)

Cost of living: factors into total cost of attendance

The cost of living varies greatly across states and cities. As Californians, we experience a very high cost of living. By attending school in a location with a lower cost of living, you are able to save on room/board/food/transportation, etc.
