James John Fence Mural

2020 - 2021

It all started with

a little idea from

an inspired student…

Then we brought that idea to the whole school to see what themes the students of James John wanted to see on the mural…

Students shared sketches of their ideas...

They shared Black Lives Matter sketches!

They shared St Johns bridge sketches!

They shared Lions pride sketches!

They shared earth and nature sketches!

They shared community, family, & friendship sketches!

And many more really creative sketches!

Then student council took those sketches and thought about

combining all the themes into final sketch ideas...

Then it was time to begin working on the murals!

Priming the boards...

5th Grade

Legacy Mural

Class of 2021 - 2022

This year we were able to move our process inside…

We sketched out many ideas, and voted on a final concept for our design…

21 of 32

We spent many classes painting…

Everyone got a chance to make their mark.

Here it is!

Mural full of all the ideas of the 5th graders of 2021-2022!

Pride Club

&

5th Grade

Legacy Mural

2024

The Pride Club mural continues to be a story of rising above the negativity to make something beautiful.

For the second time our Pride and BLM portion of the mural was attacked and destroyed.

When I shared with the Pride Club what had happened, they were upset, but also moved to create!

The Pride Club Art Director and friends add finishing touches.

The whole club (3rd, 4th, & 5th) got to draw and paint on the mural

to add their personal touch.

Individual drawings and designs from pride club members on the front!

Pride Lion on the back!

5th graders had fun mixing their ideas together for their mural. This along with the stairwell mural are the legacy projects for this year’s 5th graders.
